“We have this wonderful opportunity to care for people’s needs as we focus on listening to the problems they share. It might be depression, fear, anxiety, family problems, social issues, habits, or addictions. Some even want to end their lives. Each conversation is unique. We answer their questions. People are scared and have many needs. We provide a secure environment, and we share honestly with them about our own lives. We care about them. We help them think about solutions to their problems. They come to us once or many times.”
K is a young woman we helped recently. She is from Algeria. She is 24 years old and wanted to end her life because of circumstances within her family. We walked with her through her situation and gave her a new perspective. She said, “You took me from death to life. You saved me from suicide…you saved me from loss.” We are still walking with her.
